Union Temple partnered with The Hope project to help unemployed adults

Union Temple in Brooklyn, New York partnered with The Hope Program, a Broolyn-based non-profit that teaches unemployed or under-employed adults the job skills necessary to move out of poverty. The congregation collected gently used business clothing, taught workshops, provided one-on-one mentoring and literacy tutoring and hired HOPE students as both interns and full time employees.

Workshops included how to read to your children to give them a life-long literacy habit, working with government agencies to make sure students get the social services they are due, and another congregant brought students to visit her workplace.

As a result of this program, three quarters of the students find jobs.
