Throughout November, RAC-MA leaders showed what determined, values-driven advocacy looks like. On November 13, a group of twenty-five RAC-MA, Jewish Alliance for Law and Social Action (JALSA), and Unitarian Universalist (UU) Mass Action volunteers and congregational leaders traveled to the State House for our Dignity Not Deportations Advocacy Day. After a morning of grounding, training, and community building, teams fanned out across the building to meet with legislators and staff. Advocates shared personal stories, lifted up our values of dignity and compassion, and urged lawmakers to help end voluntary collaborations between Massachusetts entities and ICE.
Just days later, on November 25, RAC-MA joined the Protecting Massachusetts Communities coalition for the legislative hearing on the Dignity not Deportations bill. Our advocates filled the room alongside directly impacted community members, legal experts, and organizers from across the state. Thanks to our Testimony Writing Workshop with JALSA and UU Mass Action, we sent in 30 written testimonies that multiplied our impact to the legislative committee. Together, we called on lawmakers to recognize the human impact of detention and deportation systems and to take action to protect immigrant families and uphold due process.
These two touchpoints demonstrated the power of a committed interfaith movement coming together for justice. We're grateful to everyone who showed up, spoke out, and helped strengthen the moral call for a more compassionate Commonwealth. Add your voice to the movement for immigration justice and contact your state legislators! The work continues, and we're proud to keep leading with courage and community. Together, we're building momentum for a safer and more compassionate Commonwealth.
