WASHINGTON, D.C., April 7, 2009 - In response to the legalization of marriage equality in Vermont, Barbara Weinstein, Legislative Director of the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism, issued the following statement:

As we prepare for the Passover holiday and remember the bitterness of oppression and intolerance, we are cheered by the sweetness of todays victory for marriage equality in Vermont.

By overriding the governors veto, Vermont now joins Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Iowa to lead our nation in civil marriage equality. The Vermont legislature made clear that all loving, committed couples, regardless of the sexual orientation of those involved, deserve respect and recognition from their government.
