Reform Jewish Leader Calls for Repudiation of Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s Hateful Views

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
February 1, 2021

WASHINGTON - Rabbi Jonah Dov Pesner, Director of the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism released the following statement on behalf of the Union for Reform Judaism, Central Conference of American Rabbis, and wider Reform Movement:

The growing catalogue of hateful and dangerous statements from Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene are unbecoming of any public figure and even less so a member of Congress. The fact that some of Rep. Greene’s statements, though only several years old, were made prior to her election is immaterial to the fact that her support for violence against elected leaders, her inflammatory lies, and her antisemitic musings require all people of good will to repudiate her views.

Rep. Greene’s support for the execution of congressional leaders and others is reprehensible. Her promotion of a conspiracy theory laying blame on the Jewish community for 2018’s camp fire that took lives and devastated communities in Northern California would be sad if we did not know from history that the words of political leaders, however fantastical, can take hold and cost lives.

The public must know that Rep. Greene and her views do not represent her party and have no place in the public square.
