Hispanic-Jewish Relations Project

The Social Action Committee at Temple Beth Torah in Ventura, California actively promoted social and economic justice to immigrant workers by providing food and clothing and helping local mushroom workers obtain a labor contract. In order to educate themselves, they invited a member of the United Farm Workers Union to speak during Shabbat services. They also partnered with a local Hispanic church on several projects to provide a summer lunch program for community children who would otherwise go without a meal, as well as assisted victims of Hurricane Katrina.
