FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
March 13, 2018
NEW YORK – On Tuesday, March 13, Union for Reform Judaism President Rabbi Rick Jacobs issued the following statement:
It should go without question that the anti-Semitic, homophobic, and transphobic invective spewed by Louis Farrakhan is hateful and worthy of condemnation by all those who seek to strengthen the American community. Unfortunately, Farrakhan’s ongoing efforts to enflame conversation are once again gaining public attention. We had hoped that Farrakhan’s vile worldview had been successfully driven to the fringes. Sadly, it appears that his views continue to receive public attention.
So let us be clear: We stand in solidarity with all those who are targeted by hateful speech and actions. We expect the same from our friends and allies. Only by recognizing and celebrating the Divine spark in all people will we bring about the world of justice, compassion, and wholeness that we so fervently seek.
The Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism is the Washington office of the Union for Reform Judaism, whose more than 900 congregations across North America encompass 1.5 million Reform Jews, and the Central Conference of American Rabbis, whose membership includes more than 2,000 Reform rabbis.
