As a holiday that reminds us of our responsibility to help provide for the poor, Shavuot is also a holiday that communities often celebrate together with a festive meal or gathering. Generally, these gatherings also afford our communities an opportunity to include donation component. Making donations of goods as part of a Tikkun L’eil Shavuot or creating centerpieces comprised of non-perishable food items to deliver to a food pantry or soup kitchen are both ways to connect teachings of economic justice with the celebration of Shavuot.
