Reform Movement Responds to Tragedy in Colorado

Saperstein: We mourn with the families of those whose lives were taken and pray for those who have been injured.

Washington DC, July 20, 2012 - In response to the tragic shooting at a movie theater in Aurora, Colorado last night, Rabbi David Saperstein, Director of the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism, issued the following statement:

We are deeply saddened by the tragedy in Aurora, Colorado last night. We mourn with the families of those whose lives were taken and pray for those who have been injured. That this happened in the same area of the state as the 1999 Columbine shootings is a poignant reminder that too many innocent lives have been lost to gun catastrophes. Although details about this gunman and shooting are still coming to light, this horror reinforces the need to ensure that common-sense gun control laws are in place to help reduce such acts of violence.
