WASHINGTON, D.C., Dec. 9, 2009 - In response to the Senates tabling of the anti-choice Nelson-Hatch amendment to the health insurance bill, Mark Pelavin, Associate Director of the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism, issued the following statement:

We applaud the Senates action to table the anti-choice Nelson-Hatch Amendment to its health insurance reform bill. Our vision of reform is one that by definition protects womens access to reproductive health care services and ensures that no American will have his or her access to health insurance diminished.

We urge the Senate to continue to work expeditiously to pass this much-needed legislation, and we reiterate our support of the principles of universal coverage, accessibility and affordability. We hope the Senates action today will lend weight to efforts to strip the Stupak Amendment from the House bill during conference and ensure the promise of a healthy future for all Americans.
