Reform Jewish Movement Mourns the Death of U.S. Representative Elijah E. Cummings

WASHINGTON -- On learning of the death of Representative Elijah Cummings, Rabbi David Saperstein, Director Emeritus of the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism, stated:

"The Reform Jewish Movement mourns the death of U.S. Representative Elijah E. Cummings. Representative Cummings was a staunch advocate for racial justice and civil rights, working closely with the Reform Jewish community, in Baltimore and Washington, D.C., to address these and other critical issues, including relationships across lines of difference and a strong U.S.- Israel relationship.

It was an honor to know him and to partner together in support of civil rights for all people. The impact of his leadership will be missed and the legacy of his work will be felt by future generations.

May his memory be a blessing."
