WASHINGTON, D.C. July 30, 2012 - On the occasions of President Obama's signing of the U.S.-Israel Enhanced Cooperation Act and of presumptive Republican Presidential nominee Governor Mitt Romneys Sunday speech in Jerusalem, Rabbi David Saperstein, Director of the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism, issued the following statement:

We strongly commend President Obama, Governor Romney and Congress for these expressions of their commitment to Israel.

Friday's signing of the U.S.-Israel Enhanced Cooperation Act, strongly supported by the Administration and passed by overwhelming bipartisan support in Congress, provides an additional $70 million in spending for the Iron Dome and ensures that Israel maintains its qualitative military edge.

The fact that this bill was passed with such bipartisan support is especially encouraging. We urge Congress to continue on this path, seeking such bipartisan solutions for our nations greatest challenges.

We commend as well Governor Romney's powerful articulation of his commitment to Israels safety and security in his speech on Sunday in Jerusalem. That both President Obama and Governor Romney have supported prevention of a nuclear Iran as a key U.S. priority sends a vital signal to Iran at this time.

These actions and statements from these two leaders are a powerful expression of America's enduring commitment to Israel's well-being and security as being vital to U.S. values and interests.
