WASHINGTON, DC, October 10, 2008 -- In response to the Connecticut Supreme Court's decision today legalizing marriage equality, Mark J. Pelavin, Associate Director of the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism, issued the following statement:
Today's decision by the Connecticut Supreme Court, overturning the ban on same-sex marriage, is a significant milestone on our nation's path toward marriage equality. Connecticut has now joined Massachusetts and California at the vanguard of civil rights. By legalizing civil marriage equality, the court made clear that when rights are qualified and abridged, they are inherently unequal. In these three states today and, we pray, additional states soon, loving, committed couples will be given the same benefits, protections, and respect that all couples deserve.
