GreenFaith Energy Shield: Program Information

What is the Energy Shield program?
The Energy Shield is a 1-month program designed for synagogues to take action to reduce their carbon footprint and help their congregants do the same at home.

GreenFaith and the Religious Action Center provide the resources needed to make earning the Shield a meaningful and positive activity for participating sites. When a congregation completes the requirements, it receives a certificate and electronic Energy Shield.

The GreenFaith EnergyShield reflects the values of stewardship that reach back to Genesis and remind us of the importance of partnering with God in the ongoing work of Creation.

How does my congregation earn the shield?

  • Religious education activities for children, teens and adults
  • Energy-themed prayers during services
  • Simple energy-saving steps at your synagogue
  • Outreach to your congregants, enabling them to save energy at home - this will include distribution of a household "pledge" provided by GreenFaith
  • Advocacy to urge Congress to pass meaningful climate legislation

The Religious Action Center is proud to cover the tuition costs for up to 20 Reform congregations to participate in the GreenFaith Energy Shield program.
