  • Raise money and awareness for local homeless assistance network.
  • Engage the larger community in a social action project.

The synagogue held a run/walk event to aid the newly formed Partnership to End Chronic Homelessness in their mission to provide permanent housing to the chronically homeless. Over 350 volunteers, runners, and walkers from both the Jewish and non-Jewish community (including several church groups) participated in a program that raised $10,000.

Members of the Social Action Committee and runners from the congregation planned a run/walk to benefit the newly-formed Partnership to End Chronic Homelessness. They created a route and got it certified. They wrote up sponsorship packages ranging from $100 to $1000 to cover expenses, contacted neighboring churches to invite their participation, placed fliers in local athletic clubs, and solicited volunteers from the congregation.

Project Implementation:

Between 30 and 40 volunteers checked in and registered runners and walkers, manned water stations along the route, acted as MC and road monitors, and prepared refreshments for the participants.

Run for Shelter raised $10,000 for the Partnership to End Chronic Homelessness, which provides assistance to chronically homeless individuals in the area. The project also raised awareness about the Partnership, which was less than a year old. The run involved more than 30 volunteers and more than 300 runners and walkers.
