The news this week that an extended ceasefire was reached between Israel and Hamas is a much welcomed development after more than five weeks of heightened hostilities and the tragic loss of innocent lives. We pray that the ceasefire proves lasting and that future generations will know the reality of a lasting, just and meaningful peace.
Here at the RAC, the week has revolved around LA orientation. The building has been filled with guests since Monday, when colleagues from the Washington Interfaith Staff Community joined us to hear from the many policy experts teaching our new LAs. And yesterday we hosted more than a dozen former RAC LAs for our annual pizza lunch welcoming the new class into the family (you can see the group photo on Facebook). Next week, the LAs will get their issue portfolios for the coming year and dive into their work.
I hope you enjoy the long Labor Day weekend and make use of some terrific labor-related resources we have on the RAC and other Movement websites. Senior LA Sarah Greenberg did a great roundup of them on the blog this week. Sarah also wrote a terrific piece marking Women’s Equality Day, the August 26 anniversary of the Nineteenth Amendment giving women the right to vote. Finally, remember that registration for the Fall CSA meeting in Atlanta October 25-28 is open! We’ll begin the program with havdalah at 7 p.m. and end at 2 p.m. on Tuesday. We have also reserved a room block at the Loews Atlanta hotel, near The Temple, where most of our meeting will be held. I look forward to seeing you there!
