Jadyn Turner is the RAC's Gun Violence Prevention intern. She has been active in the gun violence prevention movement since eighth grade when her cousin Alyssa was killed in the Parkland shooting. Jadyn has been actively involved in school safety work with Make Our Schools Safe and gun violence prevention work with Students Demand Action, and with NFTY: she served as the NFTY-GER Social Action Vice President last year. In addition to advocacy, she has also done research on the impact of the media and school shootings and hopes to continue her research in the future. Jadyn is currently a freshman in college.
Gun Violence Prevention Shabbat is December 9-10 this year, and in the Torah portion, Parshat Vayishlach, Jacob wrestles with an angel to receive protection from a battle he foresees coming with his brother.
For many people, it is easy to think about gun violence and its impacts a few times a year, either following a horrifying, high-profile story in the news or during Wear Orange Weekend (this year June 3-5). Unfortunately, that is not a reality for an ever growing group of people across the country.
