Press Release from the Religious Action Center

WASHINGTON – Rabbi Jonah Dov Pesner, Director of the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism, released the following statement regarding the Department of the Army’s decision on the proposed route of the Dakota Access Pipeline:

I am pleased that the Army has decided to find a different location for the Dakota Access Pipeline, away from Lake Oahe and sacred Native American land. The voices of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe and their allies were clear in their objections to the proposed route. Freedom of speech and the right to assemble are bedrock principles of our democracy. We appreciate the commitment that Attorney General Lynch has expressed to protecting First Amendment rights and to deescalating tensions between law enforcement and the community.

We pray that all those who were injured during the months of civil disobedience have a full and quick recovery, including Sophia Wilansky who continues to struggle with the significant wounds to her arm.
