Cover the Uninsured Week is a week-long campaign for advocacy and direct action to reduce the number of uninsured in this country.  Since 2003, Cover the Uninsured Week, a project of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, has worked “to highlight the fact that too many Americans are living without health insurance and to demand solutions from our nation's leaders.”  As the nation’s largest mobilization to cover our 47 million uninsured, Cover the Uninsured Week is a great opportunity for interested and active advocates for health care reform to take action in their communities.

The launch of Rabbi Yoffie’s “Health Care for All” initiative at the URJ Biennial in San Diego reminded the Reform Jewish community that addressing the health care crisis is among our chief concerns as a Movement.  Therefore, along with organizations and individuals across the country, congregations and their members will be raising the level of dialogue and action related to health care reform during the week of April 27th-May 3rd

The following resources can help you to prepare materials, programs, and text studies for Cover the Uninsured Week:

Cover the Uninsured: Materials for Jewish Prayer, Study and Action.  This resource booklet includes materials for group discussion, prayer and text study resources, and a summary of health care and Jewish law.  Updated sermon resources for this year’s portion, Kedoshim, can be found accessed here[J1] .

Cover the Uninsured Week Resource Page.  The Cover the Uninsured Week homepage features resources for individuals and communities, including various planning guides and templates for those hoping to host events or enrollment fairs and state-by-state information about how to access low-cost and free health coverage.

Vision and Voice CurriculumVision and Voice is an innovative and engaging adult curriculum, designed for faith communities who are interested gaining a deeper understanding of moral issues related to health care, tools to help them talk about the future of U.S. health care, and ways to share these messages in the media and at election events.  The materials are downloadable from the website and include an interview with Rabbi David Saperstein.  Cover the Uninsured Week is a great time to launch this four-session curriculum or select programs from within the curriculum to conduct.
