Approximately 190 million acres of national forests exist in the United States. These areas are integral to our planet’s health. Some of this land has been designated as wilderness areas and are protected. Yet, about half our national forests have been seriously affected by logging, mining, road building, and other ecologically damaging activities.
National forests are protected in this country by two different pieces of legislation.
There are a number of legislative issues dealing with safeguarding our forests and wild lands.
The Jewish tradition has always emphasized our need to live in harmony with the surrounding earth.
The Reform Movement has a number of policy that speak to conservation and environmental stewardship
