National Association for the Advancement of Colored People The NAACP, the nation's largest and strongest civil rights organization, filed a lawsuit in January related to disenfrachisement of African American voters in Florida. The NAACP DC chapter is coordinating a coalition supporting the Equal Protection for Voting Rights Act of 2001.
League of Women Voters The League of Women Voters, a nonpartisan political organization, encourages the informed and active participation of citizens in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy.
Center for Voting and Democracy CVD is a non-partisan, non-profit organization that studies how voting systems affect participation, representation and governance. Their website has an extensive amount of information about election reform proposals and links to recent newspaper articles.
American Civil Liberties Union The ACLU has taken a lead with both litigation and legislation in wake of the 2000 election.
Constitution Project The Constitution Project, out of Georgetown University, has undertaken an Election Reform Initiative, which seeks to develop consensus about improvements to the administration of elections, and to convey those findings to federal and state policymakers, election administrators, and the public. A report on the above issues will be released early this summer.
The National Commission on Federal Election Reform Chaired by former Presidents Gerald Ford and Jimmy Carter, this bipartisan commission is holding 4 national public hearings and will offer recommendations for election reform by late summer. Organized jointly by the University of Virginia's Miller Center of Public Affairs and the Century Foundation.
