In recent years, politicians have been quick to adopt a "get tough" approach to crime that does not always pay enough attention to the root causes of criminal behavior, and to efforts to prevent recidivism and promote rehabilitation. This approach has been particularly evident in the area of juvenile justice.
We are commanded to turn weapons of destruction into tools for the greater good of society. We also reaffirm the Biblical concept that the criminal is a human being, capable of reshaping his or her life.
