The Reform Movement responded generously with time and money to the overwhelming need that exists in the Gulf Coast since the 2005 hurricane season. This support includes:
Raising $4.2 million in donations to distribute to relief and rebuilding agencies;
Collecting and distributing thousands of pounds of clothing, food stuffs and household goods for victims seeking to restart their lives;
Assisting in the rebuilding of our own affected congregations and community organizations;
And sending dozens of Movement-wide, NFTY, Kesher and congregational volunteers to physically assist in the rebuilding work.
Our community has a long history of strong support when disaster strikes. We are proud to continue our efforts of bringing healing and hope to those whose lives have been affected.

Roll Up Your Sleeves in the Big Easy!
The Gulf Coast is still in need of volunteers since the 2005 hurricane season. If you are interested in planning a volunteer trip, be sure to check out our resources to get you started:
In the wake of Hurricane Katrina, hundreds of URJ congregations sent more than 3,000,000 pounds of relief supplies to the Union’s Henry S. Jacobs Camp in Utica, MS. The camp served as a staging area where more than 100 volunteers came together to collect and distribute supplies to displaced families. Read Camp Director Jonathan "JC" Cohen's relfection piece from the Jacobs Camp blog. The effort was supported by a generous grant from MAZON: A Jewish Response to Hunger.
