I do not merely endorse the statements and proposed activities of the Interreligious Initiative; I do so with considerable enthusiasm. The 12 steps we join together in support of today are thoughtful, constructive, and balanced. Their translation into American policy would be an important development in the pursuit of peace between Israel and its neighbors.

Suddenly, there are hints of movement towards peace: The Geneva Accord and the Ayalon-Nusseibeh efforts in particular, this effort by the Interreligious Initiative, as well as others, give rise to hope where there has been chiefly despair in recent months and years.

I am proud to associate myself with these efforts, and pleased to be included in the distinguished company of this remarkable group of religious leaders.
