Washington, D.C., May 30, 2013 - Rabbi David Saperstein, Director of the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism, will speak at Temple Hesed of Scranton, PA on Friday, June 7 to honor the congregation's longstanding commitment to social action. Temple Hesed is celebrating its designation as the winner of the Religious Action Center's 50,000 Voices for Justice campaign, an effort to build ever stronger relationships between the Reform Movement's social justice center in Washington D.C. and the Movement's 900 congregations throughout North America.

In advance of his trip Rabbi Saperstein said, "Temple Hesed, and its Rabbi, Daniel Swartz, exemplify a commitment to social justice that is central to our Reform Movement, inspired by the understanding that we must be God's partners in the work of repairing what is broken in our world."

"The congregation's ongoing commitment to social action is embodied in all aspects of synagogue life, from its designation as a GreenFaith Congregation, inspiring, educating and mobilizing people to become better environmental stewards, to its annual participation in the RAC's Bernard and Audre Rappaport L'Taken Teen Social Justice Seminars that helps create a new generation of social justice activists."

"When the RAC launched our '50,000 Voices for Justice' campaign, our goal was to identify and honor those congregations in which social justice is a core value and a source of strength and inspiration to congregants. Temple Hesed and its members are a model for congregations throughout our Movement that seek to make social justice a core part of their identity. We look forward to continuing our partnership for generations to come."
