Local Advocacy Organizing

Organize a visit to your members of Congress. Face-to-face visits with your members of Congress (or their staff) are an influential form of advocacy that is key to effective organizing. You want those offices to see you and your group as a credible, powerful and helpful voice on your issue.

Schedule a visit by calling your members' offices or sending them a fax. You can find their contact information here. Prepare for your visit using RAC talking points on the issue.

Don't Forget to Follow-Up After Your Lobby Visit

Be sure leave your name, address, email address and phone number and to get the business card of the staffer who held the meeting. Follow-up with additional information and/or a thank you note in the weeks following the visit. Remind them of what they have agreed to do and ask that he/she write to inform you of the results of that action.
