In October 2009, bills in the House and Senate were introduced that include $1 billion for the National Housing Trust Fund (NHTF). While those bills have stalled, the money they would have put into the Fund was included in a different legislative vehicle, the the Jobs for Main Street Bill (H.R. 2847), passed by the House in December 2009. However, the Senate version of the bill did not maintain that funding. Affordable housing advocates are now pushing for the inclusion of the funds in another legislative vehicle until a dedicated source of funding for the NHTF can be found.
